I'm just telling you what the service guy at the Dealer told me iclick. His name is Marty Ferro. He works at Mtn CrK HD in Dalton Ga. His number is 706-370-7433 Call him up and tell him he's a liar. He was telling me about how the new tuners work. He said you don't have to dyno if you don't want to. Can't remember the other guy's name, but he's at Smky Mtn HD in Maryville, Tn.
I know you were just relaying what he said, but he's wrong, and that is in no way a swipe at your credibility or truthfulness. You made it clear where the info came from and you're not wrong for reporting it. OTOH no one needs to call him, as it is simply a fact that none of the flash-based tuners are capable of true auto-tuning. Furthermore, I'm not calling the guy a "liar," as that implies he's saying something he knows is untrue. I would assume he believes what he says but is simply misinformed. Anyway, Jamie explained this much better than I ever could.
I am wanting to do the full stage 1 on my 2010 Limited, but I am hearing so many conflicting reports on the Power Commanders. I live in southern AL where it gets hot down here, and many people I have talked to about this say the PC's don't hold up in the heat. I read about so much success on here I want to get one, but I don't want to invest in something that isn't going to last.
I would get a SE Tuner, but they are so expensive and I would rather have access to maps from FuelMoto which is where I would get a power package for my bike.
Do the PC V's hold up any better?
My dealer has a drawer full of PCs he has pulled off of bikes that don't work and replaced with SE Tuners.
I live in Arizona and have a PowerCommander V. It's held up perfectly. The day it gets hotter there than it gets here, you let me know.
makes me wonder.... there has been alot of used pc-5's for sale in the forum classifieds
That could be because a PCV for an '07, '08, '09, and '10 are not interchangeable, although I think the '10 and '11 are the same. For example, if you trade your '07 for an '08 you can't transfer your PCV, so it would make sense to try to sell it. That's a big plus since you can't transfer or sell any of the flash-based tuners to another bike.
my indy explained it to me as you put a tune in close to your setup , and switch to auto tune mode, ride fore a bit while data log and alter the existing tune with updated info from datalogging, and reflash.
Jamie explained this much better than I ever could in the post right above yours.

You probably never would see a SE one for sale cause it is only good for the bike it is married to right? Unless you never tried it on your bike like the one i have.
This is false, as neither SERT nor any other flash-based tuner is an auto-tune device. There is no feedback with the stock narrow-band O2 sensors beyond about 50% throttle. If there is no feedback there is no means to auto-tune.
Isn't that considered a autotune function? You put a base map in similar to a pcv and then ride the bike in record mode so the 02 sensors can adjust the base map similar to auto tune i think. This is why i bought this tuner and the cables/software.
Ok guys, I am convinced and I have ordered a power package from FuelMoto. Repeat buyer there so going to Stage 1 it up! Will let you all know the results next week.
Thanks for all the opinions and discussion. Let's keep it going, I am enjoying this thread.

Well, you're not gonna see too many SERT or SEST for sale in the classifieds for a very good reason. They can't be used on another bike than the one it's been installed on initially. They're linked to one and only one ECM for ever.
As for the plethora of PCV in the trash can of a dealership, maybe he's one of these dealers BSing his clients, telling them that using a PCV voids the warranty on the bike?
