Yesterday leaving town on a 2 niter with the wife. This is on a 09 FLHX with A/C, SERT/dyno'd and Rush pipes. 20 miles out the engine just suddenly quit, no warning at all. Grabbed the clutch, dropped it 1 gear and it started right up. It also backfired a couple of times at same time the engine quit. Never did this before. We continued on and bike did the same thing several times over the next 20 miles with the last time being in the middle of a 4 lane divided intersection in 1st gear. That was fun! Decided it was time to call it a day, turned around and made it home ok. Not being a wrench myself I got her into the dealer today. Of course they had no answers at that point. I've got a feeling this may be one of those hard to diagnose problems since it's intermittant. Can anyone come up with a cause for this?

Did you wash the bike prior to your trip? Is it possible your Fuel Management unit got wet?
Sounds like the SERT might be malfunctioning. Disconnect it and see if the problem continues.
If SERT means Screaming Eagle Race Tuner there is nothing to disconnect since there is nothing from it that is on the bike. It's just editing software/module for the ECM
Have you made any changes to the bike lately or washed it like someone else asked?

Sorry... Sometimes a guy doesnt know everything. I have a fuel pak, which can be disconnected, so I was assuming SERT was the same. That being said, if it was dyno'd and the wrong program was uploaded, or if it got corrupted somehow, I would still look into that area.
Did eveything die, or did the motor just stop running? Had a friend at the Delmarva Bike ralley had a problem that was similar. Turned out to be a wire off the ignition that runs inside the fairing. It was rubbing on a bracket and wore through the insulation and would ground out the ignition.
