For Big Red's 30,0000 mile anniversary, she gets bumped up to 103", SE 255 cams, new mapping, and an oil cooler...costs me $1663.00 tax included...hope she likes it...

2009 street glide.
My red sweetheart sure responded to similar treatment. 2010 street glide, started out at 68 hp and 84 torque. Now she purrs out 92 hp and 106 torque. My build had a couple more items in addition to the recipe you list, D&D Boss Fatcat with wrapped big bore baffle, Zippers upgraded filter element, and a SE Pro race tuner.

Good luck on your project, hope it works out well for you.

Default 88 Ci to 98Ci

I just bumped my 88Ci to a 98Ci with Cams. Do you hear a ticking sound coming from your gas tank? I know the sound is coming from the cam or motor but it sounds like something is ticking in the tank...

Well, I fat fingered my previous post. I will try again...

The deal offered for my 103 build was to bore the jugs, replace pistons, cams, gaskets, install an oil cooler, and remapping. I thought the rebuild would include a new clutch spring, but that was not the case. I asked the tech why he did not replaced the stock clutch spring? He stated: 1. The stock clutch spring was good to about 120 hp and 120 ft/lb.torque. 2. Most people complained about the increased clutch pull when they replace the spring.

I only have about 500 easy miles on the new break in period, but am concerned about slipping the clutch when I return to my natural riding style. I cannot dismiss my reasoning that if the catalog big bore kits include a new clutch spring, then there must be a need for one.

I will appreciate your opinions and especially those substaintiated with technical data. Thank you for helping!

There's a very nice bump up in performance from a stage I 96 to a stage II 103. You'll likely take a hit to your gas mileage, but that's partly because you're going to have a harder time staying out of the throttle.

With my minor modifications listed below, in my sig, I was slipping the clutch in 2nd and in 5th all the time. I replaced the clutch spring and never looked back. Some guys need to change the spring, some don't - not sure why that is.

In any case the spring is only $25 bucks and there are 5 different ones to chose from, I picked one in the middle (the 37871-98A) and have no problems now. I did notice a bit of an increased pull, but it is not anywhere near what the SE spring feels like. Where I really notice it, is in heavy traffic when I am working the clutch a lot, other than that, I forget I even changed it.

Here's a list of some springs with some tension specs. (borrowed from iclick) Note the Police spring tension spec (in Bold) is one step lower than the SE

37882-06 (117 KgF) 2006-88”, 2007 thru 2010-96”
37871-04 (135 KgF) 2004-05 88” and 2010 Limited
37871-98A (145 KgF) 1998-2003
37807-03 (165 KgF) 2007 thru 2010-103 ”Police"

The ticking sound is the valve train. Sometimes the higher lift faster ramp cams click/tic more then others.
