ok, so i'm only about 5'6" (no much i can do about it) but i feel like i want my hands higher, more straight out in front of me, on my 2010 SG.
Been looking at "apes" ..(Yaffe, WIld 1, Santee, etc..) and i'm wondering if they will be ok for me. I don't want too high, maybe 10" or 11" (i know, i know, NOT really APES!)..I'd like my hands just at the top of the fairing, NOT over... but what i am worried about is the reach. ... alot of these bars seem to look like the grips are closer to the fairing..not much pull back.... I actually like a more square wrist angle then the stock bars..but i don't wanna have to stretch to reach them...
Any advice or knowledge you can lay on me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks boys....be well... ride safe
I'm 5'8" and was going with 12" mini apes but didn't like how I was still reaching. I ended up getting 14" Big Buffalo apes and I think they're perfect. My hands are still below my shoulders but no more reaching! Like PistonPuller said, don't go less than 13 inches.
I am 5'6" as well with a 29" sleeve. I just put the Klock Works Ergo Back Bars on my 08 Ultra. They come to the top of the fairing and my hands sit more square to my body. They work great for my hight and reach.
Height not as important as torso length. I am 5 11, short legs, long torso. got the wild1 577, 12.5 i think. Perfect, sat on my buddies stock 10 Ultra, like beach bars!! you will love tall bars, really

Everything you say about pullback is correct. From what you describe, I bet you'd be really happy with the Khrome Werks +2 sweepers. They are a little higher and have a good amount of pullback. Take a werious look at them. There are a lot of guys here on the forum that are very happy with them and there are several good threads on them if you do some searching. I had them on my 07 RG and loved them. I recently installed Wild 1 12" Outlawz on my new bike. They are taller than the sweepers but have less pullback. Take a look at my video to see the Outlawz.
BTW, I believe KW has 1.25 sweepers for you bike. You could run the wires internally if you wanted.

Yaffe's 10s measure more like everyone else's 12". if I can ever convince momma that I need a Streetglide that's what I'll have on mine. I'm 5'7"
as far as numbness, not always the case. on my 98 road king, i had the wide flat chubby bars. always had problems with my left hand going numb. went to 16 and then 18 apes and had no problems. for me, it was all about the angle that my wrist was in.
