01 roadking ignition problem
hi folks, i've got a small problem that i'm working on and i hope someone can shed some light on it. the bike i'm working on is an '01 flhr roadking twin can 88 carbureted. i'm putting it back together after being rearended by a moron. the problem i'm having is that i've got no spark at the spark plugs. in other words it doesn't run. i finished hanging the exhaust and then tried to start it, the battery was low so i charged it. tried starting it again and all it would do is turn over but it wasn't trying to start. i tried starting fluid and got no response so i pulled one of the plugs and hooked up the plug wire and held it against one of the head bolts and saw that i wasn't getting any spark. these bikes have some antitheft security system installed by HD that has to be reset whenever the battery is disconected. i've tried what's in the owners manual but that doesn't seem to work. i'm going to contact my local HD dealer on monday, but in the meantime i'm wondering if there isn't something else to check on. i've got a service manual that i got when i bought my bike but HD doesn't have any serious troubleshooting techniques in the book. i'm wondering if anyone knows of any dianostic procedures for cheking the ignition module or anything else i can look at. i know i can fix this thing, i just need to find out where to look and what to look for. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, thanks. smoky
