I use the HD Filter 63798-99A Chrome or the black 63731-99A I think most on here does. Why would you want to use a K&N? From all I've heard and read, the HD Filters better.
the harley filters actually filter the oil better. i'm not a fan of k&n at all, i have my reasons, but i use the black hd filter because black radiates just a little bit more heat than the chrome.

That may be true(?), but as I understand it, they also slow the flow of oil more than the K&N. Remember, oil is used to cool the motor too, so the more oil (and cooler the oil) you can curculate the better it is for your motor.
Each filter may have features that are better than the other but, either filter should be able to provide more than adequate filtering and cooling - that's why each company sells oil filters - they work (go figure).
On a related note... In Canada I can buy the filters at CDN Tire for approximately $25 each. The same filters cost approximatley $10 each at M&Ms. I just ordered a case with my recent parts order.

You heard wrong.... The K&N and the HD filters both have the same element size internally, which is 5 micron.
I just pulled my K&N filter off after a couple weeks because my bike started running hotter after installing. Changed back to the HD filter and the heat issue has stopped. Could have been a bad filter but i'm sticking with the HD filters from now on.

I live in Arizona and my bike doesn't have any heat issues related to the oil filter....

Glad to hear it's working for you, what year is your bike? I live in Louisiana and my bike did have heating issues because of the filter. I guess if a part works in Arizona it must have to work for everyone everywere?
