Default Chrome front end kit

Local dealer has 20% off chrome front ends and labor is $250.00. Sounds like an okay deal to me. For anyone that has chromed front forks did you also get the chrome upper fork slider covers? I'm thinking that to do it right do the chrome front end kit 46371-08 and chrome upper fork slider covers 45963-97. Any thoughts appreciated.

This is the kit I'm referring to. It doesn't list the slider covers. Was your chrome front end kit the same number?(46371-08)

Yeah I probably should. I've got the service manual and the fix my hog dvd. I do most of my service myself but never took off a front end before.

My understanding is that in order to do this job the whole front end has to come off; batwing, radio, inner fairing, etc... $250 is right. It's a lot of work. A 4hr job per HD service dept. If you don't know what you're doing it will take much longer...

I did chrome exchange on ebay. It's cheaper to exchange. Cost me $190 shipped to me for exchange but I had to pay return shipping to CA from NC... so less than $250 exchange.

I just had this done and with exchange and labor my total cost was $556

The service manual does a good job of explaining it, plus the hog dvd, and info available here, took me all day. But it was worth it to learn the nuts and bolts of the bike. I also changed the fork oil to SE fork oil. No more brake dive.

Make the change yourself. There are many of us here who have made this conversion ourselves and will be happy to help if you get stuck.

AND, you will be very proud of yourself after you have done it.
