I've got an 08 RG all normal maintenance done 38K miles on it all stock except for slip ons.
For the last month when I fill up my Fuel Range has been dropping, used to say 280 to 315 miles to go. Now yesterday it only showed 210. Rode about 40 mi. today still shows 207.
Doing the math I still get 46-48 MPG.
Also when I get below 1/2 tank it cranks I'd say 20 times before it lights. When above
1/2 tank about 2-4 revolutions and it starts.
Any Ideas?
Sounds like one of your fuel lines inside of your tank is leaking...Possibly your fuel filter shell (was the recall Done?) Take your fuel cap off and Put your run switch in the run position and turn the ignition switch on if you see bubbles or fuel spewing in your tank you have a leaking line or fuel filter shell leak.

He's right on the money. Take the fuel cap off and look inside the tank with the fuel pump running and watch for fuel spraying.
There was a recall on the fuel filter shell so if you haven't had that replaced, take it to a dealer and have them replace it.
Mine failed but continued to run with symptoms like yours.
About that recall. I got the notice from HD and took the bike in for the recall. This was about two years ago. When I came back for the bike I was told that they checked it out and my bike was not effected in the recall.
I'm going to check out the fuel hose like everybody says, Thanks.

Well I checked things out and guess what I found? (fuel spraying)
Thanks guys.
Now I can go back to the dealer and see what kind of BS they are going to give me because the bike is out of warranty.
As for replacing the filter. The few service people I've talked to say. they don't change them till they go bad.
Well it's bad now so I'll change it.
The fuel filter was on a safety recall for the 08 models. Unless it's already been replaced,You should'nt have any problems geting it replaced at no charge.
