That completely justifies my thoughts on dino vs syn and exactly why I went back to dino. All the "science" in the world can't replace years and years of real world usage and success.

That's what my mom says about TV antenna's. 80 something years old and still never had cable TV. Or an answering machine. Or a computer.

She did get way modern a few years ago, when she got the microwave oven.

If she had a Harley, it'd use dino.

I hope I didn't come off like I wasn't for progress, I was merely pointing out that although I think synthetics are a good idea, I don't want them in my Harley because dino is tried and true technology.

I still hate cell phones though, I will admit to that

I was just being a smartass. I can't blame you for going with your gut.
Not doubt you'll be fine, whatever oil you choose.

What about the first gear clunk FaastEd? Will it be worse with dino oil?

The first gear clunk is normal on a Harley. In fact I'm surprised the MOCO hasn't patented it yet (like they did with the potato/potato sound.) I'd be more concerned if it didn't clunk . . .

But if it really bothers you I've found Heavy Duty Redline Shockproof oil (it's a Synth) will lessen it somewhat in an acoustic sense.

To stop the clunk either start it in 1st gear, or pull the clutch and roll it about 3 feet before you put it in 1st. Otherwise. Not a big deal.

That stuff (Shockproof Heavy) is really gaining in popularity over the years. My local HD Dealer even stocks it now, and pushes it for the 5th gear whine many used to complain about.

I personally have been running it for years, and not for hiding any noises.
It has the protection of heavy oil with the resistance of light oil. Great stuff!

Some of the repair shops hate it, because it coats the gears so well, working on stuff is a pain (messy). He he!

As far as the clunk is concerned, you can help to minimize it by having all your adjustments "spot-on", (and of course the right fluids).

or pull the clutch and roll it about 3 feet before you put it in 1st
It stunned me how well that worked, the first time I tried it. Pull in the clutch and roll backward a bit. Funny, how silent it got.
