Cool Roadglide Ultra radio question

When in Intercom mode does anyone have a suggestion on how to control music volume without getting out of that mode? At highway speed I want to keep it there so I can adjust the VOX as needed. I can adjust but have to push the volume control botton four times to get it in the volume mode. It would be cool if you could reorganize and move the volume to the bass location so that all you have to do is push once then move switch up or down to control volume.

I experimented with this a few times on my 11 RGU. Far as I can tell, you can't do what you're wanting. If you stay in the Intercom mode in order to adjust the VOX frequently, then the radio volume is secondary and you must press the switch a few times as you noted. However, why the need to adjust the VOX more than once or twice? After one or two adjustments on the road, it stays at a good level and I can exit the Intercom mode and adjust the other volumes easier. Just my 2 cents...
Ride safe.

If you are not using the CB then just use the PTT button to talk to your passenger and leave the stereo volume where it is.

I don't use the intercom because I don't want to talk to my wife while riding! LOL...

Just went to the garage and played with the radio some and it appears the intercom works the same way as the CB, which I use on long trips. It looks like you will have to get out of the intercom mode, sort of, but the intercom will still be active once it is turned on.

You know the drill, press the HK "ON" button to power up the system. Then press the "INT" button and select it to "ON" and adjust the VOX to your preference. Instead of pressing the the Audio handlebar button 4 or 5 times (my Ultra requires 5 to get to the volume setting), just press the "INT" button once, this will change the HK back to the music mode that is active (CD, AM/FM/, AUX) and the handlebar volume switch will control the music volume only. Press the "INT" button again and it will change the handlebar switch to control the intercom volume only.

In other words, the above is a one button press versus four, to change the volume control from intercom to music, then another button press to change the VOX setting. After you readjust the VOX setting, press the "INT" button again and you are back to controlling the music volume with the handlebar switch.

Hope this makes sense to everyone...

Thank you all.

I keep the VOX at a level sufficent to cut any interference, although when hit with a gust of wind it opens the mic, thus me wanting to reach forward (long reach on RG) and activate INT to adjust it to less sesitivity. But when it is lower, wife and I must then talk louder to get it to activate. I know I can just hit the PTT button to avoid this which would be the best solution but defeats the VOX purpose.

I guess the whole point is to try and keep it in radio mode so when my wife adjust volume or changes songs she won't inadvertanley (sp) lower INT/CB volume as she doesn't know what mode I'm in at any given time. Then we talk and can not communicate. (I know it a good thing sometimes).

Please don't think I'm whining I'm just a newbie trying to get any tips or tricks from the people that know.

Again Thank you all for responding!

PS...While I have your attention. Here's another question. My HD headset (came with the RGU) does not seem to have any Tone control for the music. When in outside speakers I can adjust Bass and Treble but when listening in helmet I can not adjust to make any differance. It's like listening to an old AM tranister radio. Although it is clear clean sound it just doesn't have the tone control, and I would like more Bass and less Treble. Any ideas? do I have a faulty system?

You should be able to adjust bass etc. with the headset plugged in. The headset is covered under the warranty. Take it to the dealer and get them to check out the complete system...
