Going on a ride tomorrow and my buddy and I wanted to try out our CB's. We met tonight and we can talk back and forth ok, except the voice is coming through the speakers, not our headsets. We switched headsets, plugged them both up on VOX, and they worked fine on one bike. We just can't get the headsets to work on individual bikes across the CB. (Yes we're on the same channel... for you wise crackers! LOL)
What are we missing??? I'm sure it's something simple. He's got a 11' Ultra Classic, and I've got a 13' RG Ultra.
Your CB is not activated by the vox, only the intercom is activated by the vox.
You need to set the speaker switch correctly to be able to hear the audio through your headset speakers. That's probably all that it is. And remember, the CB transmits only when you press the PTT (push to talk) button on the left switch housing.
You can also use the PTT to use the intercom if the vox is not working well for you. Just remember that if you do that, your intercom conversation will be transmitted over the CB is you have the CB turned on.
We just use the CB as the VOX is very difficult to get just right. If running at 55 and speed up the 70 the vox will have to be reset. If someone in front of you has loud pipes it will activate the vox. I leave the Intercom off and just use the cb on some channel besides 19. Don't worry about too many people listening in as it won't talk much over a mile anyway and I bet you can't say anything anyone listening hasn't heard before on the cb. Turn your squelch up to about 1 notch past center and you won't be bothered with other cb'ers. If they do you can turn it up even farther to the right. The squelch is on the push to talk button side to side movement. Push the speaker switch to the center and the cb and audio will come through both speakers and headphones. All the way forward and only the headphones work. To switch the controls from cb to radio push the right channel change button in one time and it will switch to radio. Then you can adjust radio stuff. Or if you need to adjust the cb volume you will either have to push the cb/com on the radio or while the cb is receiving you can adjust. You can also push the right channel change button repeatedly until the cb is on the screen. Push once more and it will go back to radio.
