I a 2005 electria glide and I am having oil pressure problems.
When I start it up first thing in the morning it is showing about 10 lbs of oil pressure. It use to show 32 lbs when cold. When I am riding down the road it will some times drop to some where around 15-20 lbs. And then it will jump back up between 32 and 40 psi. Can any one give me any suggestions on what is going on.
A few things to check...one is your cam tensioners if they are stock. They are prone to failure and could be disintegrating. Another thing is the relief bypass could be sticking. How many miles on the scoot?
General rule is to start checking the tensioners between 20-30k, that's not saying that they can't fail prior. However, your bypass might be sticking. You could always pop the cam cover and install a baisley spring. This can be done without having to pull the cam plate. While you're in there you could check the tensioners. The rear can be inspected without pulling the plate by using a dental mirror and a flashlight while prying it back. There are a few other things that can cause low oil pressure as well, but this is a start.
Try putting a new sender unit on. I had oil pressure issues and the first time my tensioners were shot. After getting the tensioners fixed I again started having pressure reading issues I changed out the sender unit and things are back to normal. All suggestions are good. FYI, I had 32,000 on my 02 and the inner tensioner was completely shot.
