Default Clutch noise

Anyone know about the clutch adjusting screw? There is a flat on the adjusting screw that doesn't appear to do anything. When installed into the clutch assembly it spins freely. Is it supposed to do that. Why the flat? I have a ticking noise coming from the clutch assembly and this is all I can find. Thanks for any help.

The adjuster screw is supposed to bottom out against the pushrod. You should feel the resistance and then back it off about 1/2 turn. Then you need to lock down the nut. If it is spinning, you didn't do something right.

Dawg, Thanks for the response. I believe when I replaced the compensator and took off the cluth adjuster nut ( which resisted) my impact wrench ,instead of using an allen wrench to hold it , I ruined something else inside the clutch assembly. The clutch works well and is smooth but listening to it witha stetescope I can hear a ticking almost like a loud lifter. Engaging the clutch or putting it in gear doesn't change anything. It is loud on the road. It looks like ( in the manual) the push rod goes into the adjuster and into the rod assembly and they should be locked together by the squared end but I don't know. Is this how it works? Thanks in advance.

You may have damaged/stripped the release plate or the rod assembly. I'd pull it back down and check things over.

Thanks for the reply. Going to strip it back down this week as bad weather is coming . Glad I still have my Dyna in between.

Ripped it back apart and can't find anything wrong. The squared shaft is just for oil to pass through. I went over every detail and can't see anything wrong. Have to get more fluid when Harley opens up and see how it goes.
