95" pkg pricing?
Hey guys,
Haven't posted in a while, Been busy.
A local Harley shop near me is running winter specials on performance packages.
This one sounds interesting to me, but I wanted your opinions on the package and the cost.
95" (they bore my jugs)
Andrews 55G gear drive cams and install kit
adjustable push rods
Harley cast 10.25 to 1 pistons
upgraded valve springs
They are claiming low to mid 90's for both HP and torque.
Because I already have the S/E air cleaner and SERT along with Reinhart Tru Duals,
the cost of the package installed is $2193.00. This includes a 12 month, unlimited mileage warranty.
They will download a custom MAP for these parts at the time of install and then will Dyno tune after a 1000 mile
break-in at a cost of $240.00.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Mike

That sounds like a good package. 55G's are great cams! I had a set in my last RG. If you go with it, be sure they install compression releases and then USE THEM!
Does that include port/polish the heads? If so, then I'd say it's a deal! If you trust them, then having a waarranty is also a good thing.

PhilM,
This is Freedom HD, one of the "Superstores" in Denver, been around for many years.
I am comfortable with the warranty.
It does not include any head work though.
They do have a package with heads but it is a very high end pkg. with Mackie heads.
They are beautiful, but very expensive.
They say they don't work with any local head guys because they don't want to trust their work due to having to warranty the motor.
I suppose I could get the heads done at a later date and have it re-tuned at that time.
Thanks for the response.

We work with many dealers and after a phone conversation many will "warranty" the heads as well.
Here is the logic behind it....
Many porters change parts in the heads. IMO, the more parts you change the greater the risk of having a failure. Example, to increase the valve size, the valve seat needs to be changed. This involves removing the stock seat, boring the seat pocket and installing a new seat. This extra work adds a certain amount of risk. I have not seen a dropped seat in a stock head. I have seen dropped seats in heads that have had larger than stock valves installed. Add to this changing guides and fitting new valves and springs and that just compounds the risk.
We don't replace any of the stock parts except the seals. Since we retain stock valve sizes and valves, it removes the risk associated with those types of failures. We concentrate on the ports. Improving the ports efficiency and improving the valve job doesn't require part replacement. We can change the springs and clearence for non bolt in cams as well but a majority of the builds we see are using bolt in cams.
I'm not trying to sell you on our heads but rather explain the dealers point of view, as I see it, and I can't blame them.
