Thanks for the links and pics. Lot's of votes for Black with flames! Nobody is into the candy colors eh? Good thing is that I have some time to decide.
I like the idea of a candy red or candy blue as long as the frame was painted the same color. Other wise I'd stay with the black base it will go with the flow of the black frame better. Just my opinion. Some day I'd like to paint my frame and sheet metel a custom color. Here are some picts of my Softail I did a few years ago.

I know show bikes need to match the frame and tins. I don't see a time that I'd be showing my bike...I ride it far too much. I considered that point (matching tins and frame) during my decision process. Do all HD tourers except for CVO or SE come with black frames?
Black is tough to clean and keep clean. I personally would go with another color and ghost flames. I am looking to do the same thing - get a custom / different color, but I am torn between doing a candy or a flat. Whatever you decide I am sure you will like it.
I have a black vette, and it's a PITA to keep clean. That being said, I wash it when it's dirty...so what.
The ghost flames is cool, and when done right, will look good on any dark color IMHO. I like black with flames the most...I have considered doing this myself, though I have other things in mind for that 5K for the job.
Post pics when your done so that the rest of us can drool...
