How's it looking in there Jim? That's a SE crank and rods right? Did they use the new button head cap screws to lock the crank bearing in the case behind the oil pump? I noticed that i have higher oil pressure than the stock motor, saw no mention of an oil pump modification in the specs.

yes SE crank and rods. rods are not tapered. yes there is a button head holding the bearing in place. my pic is so bad you cant see it.
oil pump looks the same.
run out was 2 thousands both sides.

Can I ask why you bought the engines built and then tore them down to even do more work? Seems you could have built them from the kits or even from what you already had? Was it more cost effective?

Thats alot better than i thought you might see after all i have heard. If and when you put the SE race clutch hub in and before you put the plates in spin that thing on the mainshaft and see if you get that wobble out of the outer clutch basket that i saw. I'm scared to take my dial indicator out around the new motors from what i hear. Just going to use it the way it is for now. Jim you think there is going to be any heat issues in the hot weather with these 120s? I haven't heard any and can't see it being as bad as the new cat bikes.

Mine seems to be running cooler than my 09 stock 96", but hard to tell with the highest riding ambient temps being in the 60s. I opted for the oil cooler for some additional insurance.

when you look at buying everything. I mean everything it takes to build a compleat motor. it is a really good deal. so now I have another motor setting on the shelf. the way my vac is every year I have 2-3 weeks that I have to take when we shut the business down, then I have a little more to play with. so if something was to happen at the time leading into the vac period. I could thrash a couple nights in the shop and have another motor in the bike and away I go ,not missing my vac riding time.
the tear down was to do the heads ,just a quest for more power, and get a look inside. I measured everything to see what is really there. everything looks good. deck height is the same from motor to motor. I couldn't cut the clys any closer then what they are already. runout is better than my 96 was new. end play on the crank is marked .0006

we are both using Rivera pro clutches.
I couldn't live with the clutch pull on that SE clutch. I really dont mind a stiff clutch, but that one is a bear.
Here is one Herko tuned.built by poorboy.
it turned out very nice.
Herko may have posted it somewhere on this forum already. there are so many posts here I cant keep up with them. so I apologize if it has been posted already.
anyway....it has raised the bar for sure. nice job from the tuner/builder alike. just shows you what can be done.
helps explain why we decided to tear a perfectly good crate motor apart.
What kind of work is going into the heads? Just a port clean up?
depends on what it takes to get them to flow "BETTER".
new bronze guides, valve job, cced, maybe even grooves.
it is all up to WFO Larry what he does to the ports and chambers.
springs will be OK they are @ 180 closed 500 open with stock cams lift.
or at least that is what they are advertised.
