Bought my bike new in early Dec 2008 and now have 38,500 on it. This past year has actually been a slow one for riding as I should have around 60k on it according to the typical annual mileage I run (close to 30k a year is my average). We had a wet/muddy winter here last year so i didn't ride as much as normal. I live on 2 miles of dirt road in a rural area, so if it rains more than a slight amount it takes a day or two before I can ride. The bike was also down for about 2 months for collision repairs after I got taken out by a car that made a left turn in front of me.
As to your question? Ride the hell out of it. That's what it's intended for and how an H-D should live it's life. Too many sit in a garage and get polished more than ridden. These bikes will rack up 100k and beyond without blinking if you take care of it.
Purchased my 09 Road King January 09 and now have about 41k miles, not trouble free miles but taken care of under warranty which is about to expire soon.
Bought my 08 Street Glide in May of 08 and I have 33,800 miles on it without a problem.
Traded for my 2010 Ultra Limited in March 2010 and turned 13k yesterday and haven't had a problem.
i have just under 40 k hopin to have 100 k by 13, then I get a big big motor for it. Its an 09 no can, new frame, last of the good bikes.
I think that putting the cat on the 2010's is the one thing that is going to do these bikes in early. There is so much heat it is crazy.
Mine went right to the landfill when I bought it used with 3300 on it.
I plan on keeping it until 55 or 60K.
Well the cat is the only thing that stands out for me on the 10's good bike otehrwise, plus most change out to duals or fatcat or other 2-1 anyway. I see no reason to change this bike out at all. Only thing that might tempt me is if HD comes out with a tourer with a 120+ inch V rod motor. The frame and brembos are great upgrades over my last RKC, the motor I have now is good but still want more (its a disease).
