2. I use my ipod all the time and find it handy to have it in my line of sight when making adjustments. Having it in my fairing pouch is pretty good for that.

3. I tried a mount on the dash, and had glare problems.

I'll save the $400 for some awesome live to ride covers!

On the move technologies has an IPOD interface that charges and works off radio hand controls. All data is displayed on the HK radio screen. I paid $265 at eastern performance. Was a simple install as well.

What do you do with it when it starts to rain? If you're gonna pay that price you might has well go with the HD module and mount it in your bag/tourpack.

+1

Not to mention the lack of integration with the handlebar controls.

If it cost $150, maybe. But at that price, I'd pass.

I bought an in-dash system from Cyclone Custom Corp. It charges the phone, connects it to your radio so the handlebar volume works too. It's also keeps the weather out with the UV protected rain shield. The price was about the same as any other high quality chrome accessory for my bike. I decided to do it right and protect my phone. The console looks good too, and my phone is safely locked in place with the lock keyed the same as my ignition key. One key does all!

Their web site has a ton of information but I did notice that when you access it from your phone it is a whole different limited site.

I installed the HDPDPLUS Plus this week, love it so far. Was kind of a bitch to install, the module is hard to fit under the fairing and to run the cable under the tank was tough because of the cross over fuel line. I didn't want to take it off so I had to hold up the tank and work the cable into the plastic holder for the wires. If I would have had another person it would have been easier. Also wish the cable was 6" to a foot longer, I ran mine to the tour pack and there is only 4 or 5" of cable over the liner. Would like to have enough to put the iPod in the lid organizer pocket, will have to cut a notch in the bottom pocket and work it into that pocket instead of just going into the top of the pocket.

It does work good though, rode for a few hours yesterday and enjoyed being able to choose what I wanted to listen to.

I did exactly the same, but went on eBay and bought a 2 ft extension. Put it in one of the 2nd row bags of the lid organizer. Works fine. Displays right on the Harmon Kardon radio; handlebar controls all work. The best way to play your own music on the bike, in my opinion.

Hell's Foundry DashLink works differently than the HD iPod interface, and the On The Move interface.
It is designed to allow use of the screen as integral to your ride. For example, you can use your navigation application (which is included on your iPhone). Using either of the methods noted above eliminates that option.
There are now more than 1,000,000 applications written for iPhone. Many of them can be used to a riders benefit. There are apps that provide virtual gauges like tach and speedo, etc. There are locate friend apps. There are Sirius/XM and Pandora apps. There are apps that stream your local radio stations from your home town while you're traveling. If your use requirements are only to play music that exists on your device, then the two "interface" options will likely meet your needs. If you want to integrate your very capable iPhone into your riding life, the screen is necessary.
DashLink is the only replacement console/dash with a docking station. It does not require removal of the outer fairing to work properly. It can be installed in under 10 minutes on most bikes. DashLink works on all HD radios, not just 2006 and up.
What do you do with your phone when it rains now? Seems like the same solution will work here.
Here's an install video for a Street Glide. It runs under 8 minutes.
