Default Heated Garage?

Has anyone added heat heat to their garage since they got their bike?

I have quite a bit of stuff planned to do to the bike over the winter here. My garage is not insulated so full time heat with a Modine, or venting off the house would not be practical. Just looking for some ideas to take the "Wisconsin Chill" off when I'm out working on the ride.

Bring it in the house!

Get a space heater, easiest way to heat a small area with little expense. I have a detached garage with no insulation now. This is what I will do.

Here is what I put in my garage

Sunpentown WA-1400H 14,000BTU Self-Evaporating Portable Air Conditioner w/ Heater

My garage is not insulated either. Heck even the garage doors leak light. But this thing keeps the garage warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The garage is about 400 sf which is why I bought the big one. If you do a search, you can find smaller ones for smaller rooms.

Yeah, I had the gas line run a number of years ago, just never installed a heater. I'd really like to get one, either a Modine, or comparable model that hangs from the ceiling (my garage is drywalled-but the ceiling isn't insulated...yet).

I use a Mr Heater Big Buddy Catalytic heater. It is approved for a non vented space and runs on LPG, the same as a bar b cue.

Here is a link to the manufacturers page, but you can google it and find it cheeper.

I have owned Harleys for years and every winter I would put it in the heated basement, I built a new home about 2 years ago and I have a 3 car garage the bay next to the house is separate from the other 2, all are insulated and dry walled.
I installed a hanging unit heater with a t-stat for this bay. I also put a tight weave carpet on the floor. All of this for mine and my wife's Harleys. All my non-riding friends think I am crazy..... In the winter I set the stat to about 55 unless I am working out in the garage.

Kern,

Fellow Wisconsinite here. I'm in the same boat as you; non-insulated garage but like to work on the bike (and my truck) at times when the temperature is pretty durn cold. If you don't want to go through the trouble and expense of insulating and hanging a Modine, just get yourself a torpedo heater that you can use as needed. This is what I have and it works really great...I just fire it up about an hour before I plan on starting my project and then let it run until I'm comfortable. Got mine at Farm-n-Fleet for about $100.
