2" is a pretty big drop for a stock size front wheel (we see quite a few baggers down 2", but they generally have converted to a 21" front wheel).
1" will level the bike nicely and the progressive rate spring will help deal with brake dive.
A 2" drop even using a 21" wheel is a big drop.
My setup in my '06 SG is:
Progressive stock length springs
Ricor Intiminator valves
Arlen Ness 1 1/2" Lowering Dampeners
Amsoil 5wt. oil
Progressive 12" 440's in the rear
It STILL bottoms out at 1 1/2"
I have a pretty ding on top of the fender to prove it.
The streetglides already run a 12" shock in the rear which is an inch lower than other tourers. If you go 2 more you're going to have trouble. I do have 11.5 440's on the rear with no problems(wife and I together are just a tad over 300lbs). Wouldn't recommend any lower than that. I don't mind the work it takes, I do it all myself.
Are your 11.5's in the rear HD's or standards. Thinking of going to these on my Ultra same thing just a tad over 300 2-up
They are the standard on the rear. The HD heavy duty will be too much for me. I don't have a tourpack and don't normally load down mybags either. I have to hit a pretty good dip to for it to bottom. The ride is stiffer compared to stock, I have it on the lightest stiffness setting too. The spec sheet on the prog site for the 440 I have rate lbs/in at 140/180 so that by 2 = 280/360 So at the stiffest setting your looking at max weight of 360. If I decipher the spec sheet right. The hd is 165/205X2=330/410. Hope this help but still check the progressive site and go to their sponsor here at pick their brain too.
Has anyone used the 2" progressive fork springs and dropped the complete 2". If so, you did how did you like it and were there any problems or concerns? Thanks men.
I just Did this today, looked liked I had very little clearance about 3-4 inches to top of fork. Took it for a spin drove aggressively to see if I would bottom out, worked out great and rode nice.
I dropped the front cause I'm getting a 21 inch wheel (1 1/2 inch taller), and I'm putting a 17 inch wheel in back dropped the back 1 inch, with the full 2 inch drop in front and one inch drop in the rear the bike will be 1/2 inch lower from it's original stance.
I did 1.5" and not sure I will go any lower. It's not too bad, but rougher than it was stock....which I got spoiled on. I'm going lower bags and I dropped the front fender down so it looks lower.
