Thanks for an excellent write up that finally convinced me that I need these LED lights.

Default LED Headlight review

I also want to thank you boys for an excellent comparison article. Very nicely done. I have been thinking about purchasing LED's for a while now and your comparison and pictures made my decision easier. Even though they are more money I like the light output of the HD unit better. I ride in Northern Wisconsin deer country alot, so any extra lighting will make it safer to travel in the evening. I plan on adding the HD LED auxilary lamps and wiring them to stay on all the time. Someone in this thread mentioned some states do not allow this. Any information on which states or where one might find that information would be appreciated. Thanks again.

I have my passing lamps wired up so they're on all the time if the toggle switch is on, and off if the switch is off. With this set up you'd be fine no matter what state you rode in.

Sorry, no wiring diagram to share as my dealer did it for me but I bet a search here would turn something up.

i'd also like to find out more about these new l.e.d. headlights. i'm currently using the hella E code headlight with a great osram/sylvania bulb. it's a huge improvement over the stock harley headlight, but i really like the idea of the led light if it lights up the road better. the link for me didn't work either, but i'll check back tomorrow and perhaps it will. thanks for the information.

FROM: masterblaster
I have the hella in my dyna 7" light, no comparrison to the LED, better than stock though.

I agree with masterblaster - I had the Hella E code with Osram 65/70 halogen. Better than stock, but ran hot. Either of the LED headlights are by far better.

Actually it's a federal dot lighting ordinance. Technically, any auxiliary forward lighting (whether they're called driving lamps or fog lamps or passing lamps is irrelavent) is required to turn off when the high beams turn on.

I figure as long as the lights are aimed properly, most (but not all) LEOs will not ticket for it on a motorcycle - they understand the 'see & be seen' concept.

Follow this link for a PDF with a couple of alternatives to accomplish the goal, including wiring diagrams - www.lrsanitary.com/0/PassingLamps.pdf

Hope this helps...

I could never understand the logic behind this ordinance. High beams are only used when there is no oncoming traffic, so why would the feds consider it a problem to have "forward lighting" on simultaneously with them?

Replace that 65/70 with the 80/100 and your see a big difference. Wire in a NAPA bakelite headlight plug socket and don't worry about the heat.

Great comparison. Thanks for posting it. The unit from JW/HD has a superior light pattern but it's significantly more expensive too.
Anyone knows if the HD trim ring works with the JW/HD LED headlight?

HD trim ring and visor trim ring work with HD LED, took a bit of tinkering to get it to fit tight, i had trouble getting the original trim ring mounting tab to fit snugly into the LED mounting bracket

I have to agree that the original is tricky. Seems like you have to press on it with more force than you normally should when changing the light.

I have the visor trim ring, and it fit without much hassle (about the same BS as usual with it).
