We tried turning the ignition switch to "ignition" and the run/stop on run and then pushed both flasher buttons at same time. I am thinking that we waited longer than 3 seconds to push the flashers in and since it is not my bike I have no way to know if it is working as expected at the moment. I told my friend to try that and see if maybe we weren't quick enough on the draw. Luckily it was just a little battery and 20 minutes of panic. I hate that security system...

The security system or something at gas station will also cause security system to screw up. Just move away from gas pumps when this happens.

I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be in the accessory position. It's been a while, but I am pretty sure that was the same mistake that I made in the past.
Just for grins, give that a try sometime when you are bored. (My bike is tucked away at the moment). Blizzard goin' on.
One of these days I am going to drag it out and practice that. LOL

I have heard that before. Not sure if it's the credit card reader on the pump, or what. But something sends a signal that can interfere with the FOB signal. I have never seen it happen, but have indeed heard of it.

The little card says turn it to ignition. I always carry mine in my wallet and we did everything it said. Just don't know what "immediate" means secondwise when it states to push in both turn signals. The only other thing we did was use the odometer to check the codes in his bike before we suspected the security system. Perhaps it needs to be on a particular view of the odometer to work properly.

Gotta like these cheap fixes, but yours wasnt easy w/getting the bike home. I try to change all vehicle remote batteries in Oct (Fire Prevention month) along w/home detectors...it's the old Firefighter in me...

It probably has to be in the accessories position during programming then.
I know I had it backward once. LOL

If you have the security system it is a good idea to practice disarming it so if something were to happen on the road there won't be an issue.

I had a similar problem with my last bike so this time I passed on the security option.
