I have a 2010 SG and was thinking about replacing my grips. Does anyone have any tips or links on the web showing how to do this? I have done all of the upgrades myself so far and havent had a problem so any help that you guys can give would be awesome.
Might as well cut the left side off, loosen the throttle side switch housing enough to pull off the grip. Slide the new grip on and tighten, make sure the switch housing doesn't need to move any due to a possibly longer grip. Button it up and make sure there is no binding. And may have to move that left side housing a bit.
Yeah, new ones are real easy. I just did mine. Much easier and faster than the old style you had to hook the throttle cable up to.
Cut off the left one and chuck it. New one slides right back in place real easy. Bolt the housing back together and your done with it.
Unbolt the right, make sure you put a stop in between the lever and housing as shown/told in the instructions. Slide off the old grip, slide on the new grip, and make sure you get the teeth engaged. Bolt it all together and your done.
Took longer to type this than switching them will.
Best part.....NO GLUE like the old ones!!!!! Can change grips anytime now quick and easy!
In didn't need to cut off the left grip. I put on a pair of leather work gloves, loosened the clutch housing, grabbed the grip real tight and twisted it off. There was enough glue left so I just put the new grip over it and it hasn't moved in 4000 miles.
Is pretty easy. Did mine on my 2010 FLHTC yesterday in about 15 minutes and I'm no mechanic, just like to think I am. Thanks for the posts on here about how to switch them out.

Ok I got the grips tonight and installed the left one in a few minutes. Not problemo, didnt have to cut or anything.
Now I get to the throttle side and the instructions tell me to "see the service manual and follow the instructions to remove and install the switch housings and the right side grip"!!!! LOL so the instructions want me to go elsewhere to get them.
Problem is I dont have a service manual. THe warning about the master cylnder and using an insert has me a little nervous. Does anyone have some nice step by step instructions from the service manual or other places that they can share.
