Default Street gliders pls help!

I recently sold our 2009 ultra and of course now have the itch for another HOG. I really love the street glide styling and color but I ride 2up 80% of the time. I'm told they tend to be rough 2up, should I just strip down a classic?

A rear shock change will solve the 2-up problem.

Personally I think it's easier to build up a SG than stripping an Ultra. I mean, who wants to mess with filling fender holes and painting parts? It's way easier to buy a color matched tour pack and lowers. Yeah, you don't get rear speakers or a CB, but I don't care about those much anyway.

09 Classic, detachable tourpak

Road king signal light bar and license plate mount

pass floorboards replaced with FLHX pegs.

fairing lowers added

have Brawler, StreetGlide and Ultra seats

have street glide shocks, stock shocks can go back on in 15 minutes ( front end is not lowered, so can go back and forth.

Have windscreens in 3 heights to match seat swaps

That's my swiss-army bike ( thinking about selling the FXR now)

Mike

I bought a 09 FLHT for 16,000 out the door compared to 22,000 SG added a biketronics stereo, lowering kit and chopped windshield..Now I have the SG look with a better stereo and I have the standard shocks. I ride 2-up all the time have had no complaints from the better half. I spent about 1,500 in accessories and have the look and feel I wanted for way less the 22,000.

Buying an SG was just the beginning for me, as although the bike had a nice look in stock form it needed modification for me to be happy. The first to go was the "wind deflector," which deflected the wind right in your face, and second were the rear shocks. I went with Progressive 440's, 12½" with standard springs, and they were better than the 12" stock air shocks, which were totally unacceptable. Later on I went with Ohlins (#2-3) from Motorcycle Metal and they were a quantum leap in the right direction--great control and superb ride. Although I only ride solo they are still perfect loaded for touring, but riding 2-up would probably require a preload adjustment. Howard at MM sets the shocks up for your needs before shipping.

Next addition were saddlebag guards, which not only add protection for the bags but allow mounting the guard bags for extra storage. That's just to mention a few items I changed out from the outset, the beginning of a long list of modifications to the bike, most of which I would've done regardless of the model I chose. Had I purchased a Classic, which would've been my next pick, I would've had to add detachable Tour Pak hardware and I still would've needed a windshield change, as the stockers are too high for me. OTOH the stock 13" shocks might've been acceptable as they were on my old Evo RK that I rode >100k miles.

When my wife tours with me I swap to the sundowner seat. I add air to the rear shocks to 46 lbs. I'm 210 and she's 120. We have no issues with the stock shocks and the ride of the bike. I'm really happy with my SG.

Like others here, I wanted the SG look with the Classic feel. I added a tour-pak and Sundowner seat. I ride two up all the time and it feels fine to me. I'm 230 and the wife is one 120 and once the shocks are aired up we're off. I do think some 13" shocks would be a little better though.
