Please explain
the difference between a street glide an electra glide classic except the obvious: Lights, tour pak, seat, and guards. Why are the prices the same yet you get so much more with the egc?

The street glide also sits a inch lower. But as far as cost my guess would be supply and demand. The street glide is probably Harley's most popular bike there for they can ask more money for it cause they know they'll still sell it. That's just my thought on it.
welcome to the forums.
the streetglide is a "custom" inspired by common mods that owners would do using the EG STD ( discontinued after 09) as a base. H-D took notice and marketing came up with a new model, FLHX streetglide.
The EG Classic does not have the swoopy dash and floor boards or nice wheels
but as you note it has some good attributes.
My 1st FLHTC was a '95, I bought an 09 FLHTC a couple of years ago.
The Ultra is cool, but I have no use for the cb radio and rear speakers, and the T/P light bar eats up internal space. that's why I prefer the Classic ( and the savings)
Here's my classic, added fairing lowers, SG shocks -1", lower windscreen and seat:

the tourpack, big seat and stock shocks go on to tour

As much as I liked the Street Glide I went for the Electra Glide for all of the aforementioned reasons. Plus no front fender chrome trim, I didn't like the small bullet turn signals, (too small to see) and I didn't like the mirrors mounted in the inner faring. I wasn't particularly impressed with the seat either. Took the Tour Pack off of my EG, put on Led Turn Signals and Tail Light, put on full size Driving Lights, 12" Rear Shocks, lowered front end. I then installed detachable Sissy Bar and Luggage Rack. Hopefully now I have the best of both bikes.
While I think the street glides are pretty, they are lowered so I am not interested. I have a EG classic, and can barely keep the floorboards out of the street...
However, I send this to point out that harley often takes a successful bike, takes some parts off it, slaps on a "commemorative" sticker or a distinctive part and sells it for a higher price. Check out fat boys/heritages. If you buy a fat boy and add saddlebags, you've spent as much as for a heritage, and there is still a lot you didn't get, like passing lamps and fender trim, for example. I always buy a fancy bike and take things off it, rather than buying a cheaper bike and adding stuff. You may be able to modify a classic or standard and save money.
On the other hand, if your heart is set--do what makes ya happy!

The list on both bikes has been the same for years.
Personally -- Had a SG and loved the style, but ended up putting too much stuff on it for comfort and ruined the style. Wound up with a EGC and ripped a few things off and added style.
In the long run, I'll take the luggage and the lights.

Went in to buy a Street Glide, walked out with A Ultra Limited, so like most have already commented on, figure out what you want the bike to do, and go from there. Cannot go wrong with any of the Electra Glide models for touring. The Street Glide has the "looks" dept covered, I will admit, but the others have options already added.
That was my same thoughts when I went to buy last time. I got the EGC and removed the front and rear bumpers, lowered the rear of the bike 2 inches and put on a rear fender extension off of a street glide and now I have the best of both worlds.
