Chrome and tour-pak are main differences as you pointed out. MKGuitars post pretty much nailed it. You can buy an EGC and give it that SG look cheaper than you can buy a Street Glide and start adding stuff. Much of the stuff that people like to add already comes standard on the EGC. I had a 2010 S.G. and now I have a 2011 EGC, so I speak from experience. Besides, I like chrome and the EGC comes with a lot and I'm adding more - kinda like a '58 Buick Limited.

Yep, one up and MK Guitars said what I was thinking when I read your post. Street Glides are more about appearance/style, while the ElectraGlide is all about touring. Both are beautiful bikes in different ways. If you plan on doing any amount of touring, though, the Ultra is a natural choice, especially if you ride two up. But if most of your riding will be day trips, around town & solo, then style is higher on your prioritty list, and the SG makes more sense.

I'll make one more point in favor of the Ultra. It is, hands down, the best all around "do it all bike" in the HD line up. On a warm, sunny Saturday when I have a list of errands to run, I'll fire up my '04 Ultra, empty the saddlebags and tourpack and start my trip. I'll return some hours later with stuff from various stores including some groceries (you'd be surprised how much an Ultra's bags and tourpack swallows), having thoroughly enjoyed the process and all at 32 MPG. Try that in the family car!

Can't do that on a Street Glide.

Thank you all. I got the answers that I thought that I would get. I think that I am now interested in egc. A little back ground about me.
I currently ride an 06 Suzuki S83, (vs 1400.) Am about to take the plunge and buy my first Harley. I was thinking about the SG, mainly the appearence. Best looking bike in the barn as far as I am concerned. the m ore I think about it though, the EGC seems to be the way to go. I donn't do much 2 up, but my daughter is getting older and showing some interest in climbing aboard. The wife might like to start going for a ride too. Might be able to talk her into an over night.
Well, any more questions IO have, and there will be more, befor I buy in the next month or 2, I know where to come.
Thanks guys
Jim
