you're a very lucky guy to have such a wonderful dad. i no longer have my pop, but i sure do miss him. one thing we had in common through the years was our love for motorcycling. your dad is a special man indeed, and that's such a thoughtful gift.
Thanks for all the wonderful comments. I'm going to print them out and give them to my father. You are all correct when you say that I'm a lucky person that he is still with me and I'm able to enjoy doing different things with him. Initially my parents weren't very fond of my motorcycle hobby (dangerous, crazy cage drivers, etc). But over the years, they've grown to accept it.
Unfortunately my father just wants to paint different things for family members. I mentioned to him that I bet he could easily sell these at different motorcycle events, but he has no desire at this time to do that. Maybe he'll change his mind. He does have a unique painting style. The library in the town which my parents reside sponsored an art show for local residents. My mother nagged/egged/forced my father to display the painting he did for me. At the end of the show when my father went to retrieve the painting, the people at the library told him that a number of people actually wanted to purchase it. He was shocked! He couldn't believe it.
I also have a younger sister who is an equine veterinarian and also likes to ride (horses, not motorcycles) and brother (who also rides and posts here). Attached is the picture my father gave to my sister over Thanksgiving weekend. It shows her horse jumping with her pet Weimaraner looking on. Dad's currently working on the painting for my brother. Unfortunately, it isn't a motorcycle type painting like mine (lol).
If I was you, I would treasure that more than anything. You only have one Dad. I lost my Mom a few years ago while I was in Iraq the second time and I could not be there for her when she was in the hospital, not a day goes by that I dont think about her. My Dad is still with me, this is my last deployment because I want to watch my kids grow up and be there for my Dad when he needs me. You miss to much while you are away. On the brighter side of things, I have given over 21 years for my country and I do not regret one minute of it, I would do it again in a heartbeat. Its the hard sacrifices that go along with the feeling of doing something for the greater good, its part of the deal. Take care and be safe.
