Default Do new bars = new cables etc.?

I have an 09 Classic.

I like my bars a little closer than stock. I had the reduced reach bars on my evo Classic. Brake lines, cables, wiring, everything fit just fine.

How about the more recent bikes, do they have a couple or 3 inches play in them?

Thanks, Mike

They do have some play (on the Road King at least). I changed mine out for Wild 1 518's. They say you can use stock cables, but recommend +4 on the brake and throttle/idle. I just swapped out (again) to the Wild 1 14" apes and had to go +8 on the throttle/idle/brake and +6 on the clutch. Needed to extend the wiring on both bars though. I've read about several options out there that can utilize stock cables, but don't remember all of them off the top of my head.

If Wild 1 has bars you like, shoot them an email or call them. Great company to deal with and more than happy to answer questions so you have a painless install.

Thanks, looking for specific 09+ Ultra/ Classic/ FLHX model owners. These all have the same stock bars and fairing.
Also Throttle by wire

I just installed WO 575 bars on my 09 Ultra.

If you want the clutch cable to run through the fairing, you'll need a longer clutch cable. I used one similar to the stock cable from Harley that is 4" longer than stock (38649-08).

I would suggest that you get the new throttle sensor with the one piece cable (32310-08). It will get rid of the little in-line green plug and make the job much easier.

If you install a new clutch cable, you will also need a new gasket for the right side transmission cover (36805-06).

I don't have anti-lock brakes and my brake line worked fine. I've read that the anti-lock systems require a new brake line, but I can't say for sure.

I bought the 8" Namz wire extensions, but if you don't mind rerouting some of the wiring under the fairing, these aren't required.

There is a thread here that was started by Bertk with a wealth of information on installing bars. You can find just about anything you need to know in that thread.

Good luck,
Mike
