The tourpaks have two mounting positions. Make sure your's is in the rearmost holes. My passenger is not a small person and she's ok with the drivers' backrest in place. Another option would be to get a smaller wife. It'll cost you, though...

My wife is only 4'10 ish 115lbs. We have the sundowner on my 10 SG also. We added foot boards and put on lowering extensions on the lowest adjustment for the floor boards and it made all the difference for her

At our shop we have a guy who is a magician with things metal -- I dunno - He's a steel-savant I guess. Hand this deadlock genius a torch or a welder with a stack of metal and pretty soon, he'll have things for you that engineers say do not exist.

So to accomplish this task, you take the backrest pad off, carefully block up the lower frame so it doesn't move, then apply significant, but slow and steady pressure to the upper frame so it bends.
But no so fast that it cracks the chrome - Stop when you think you have moved it enough.

I watched him do it, but am 'ascared to try it myself.... and if I had not seen it personally, I'd tell anyone else they were fools for believing it could be done.

So Lucy -- There you go

09 and up HD touring bikes have a bit more room because of the frame change, but the HD touring bikes have a 1 inch shorter wheel base than a V-Star 1100 and 3.5 inch shorter than a Yamaha Venture. Much of that comes out of the passenger area. When I was looking for a full dress two up bike we test road all the big brands, my wife said the HD had the least amount of passenger room. I bought the Venture added a back rest on it, we ride two up no problem. I never remove the back rest.

Thats why I run the HD compact style rider backrest.

The full size ones are just too dang bulky when theres a passenger aboard. The compact ones are not as thick, do not cut into the passengers thighs, and work every bit as well for the driver, at least IMHO.

I took it off and threw it in the saddlebag.

Anyone else experience their passenger complaining of lack of room with rider backrest in place? Is it the choice of seat? Big touring bike seems like it should have a little more room.
