Hey all,
I am getting ready to purchase my first Road King and have a few questions.
1) I was wondering how everyone likes the new 96" engine?
2) What pipes and air cleaner get the best performance with this engine?
3) love to hear any comments on the engine and performance with/without the mods.
Lots of opinions but I'd have to say, guys who own 96's like them
I have an 07 SG nor RK, but mine screams, although I am sure there is more in it with jetting and exhaust. It is 100% the strongest bike in our group, bone stock. No drag racers, but plenty or rejetted, remapped, 88s and 80's and mine either outruns, or stays along side all of them, and once I hit 6th, I am gone, decisively, meet you at the next stop GONE
That same 6th gear is sure nice at lower speeds as you plunk along quietly
Longevity and maintenance, remain to be seen, I am only at 600 miles, but so far, so good
I have the same experience as 'Stang. I've had my '07 RKC for only 1300 miles, but I am impressed with the power spread across the six speeds. The engine really runs great. You'll hear some criticism from folks about the noisy 5th gear, and it's true that it's the one gear that seems out of place in the spread. There is definitely some mechanical sound in that gear, but it pulls nicely and seems sturdy.
This is my first Harley in years, so I don't have much to compare it to, but having test-ridden an '06 Glide, I really like the new engine in the '07!
96c.i. engine kicks natural A$$... it is a bit quiet though.
I added V&H Oval slip-ons/SE air cleaner/SERT combination to take full advantage of every cubic inch.
it's no 1/4 mile bike, but it gets me anywhere I want to go on time and in comfort.
