I just returned from a long ride on Sunday. While cleaning my bike I noticed my headlamp was broke. It appears a rock hit it and now there are cracks running along both sides. The glass is still intact so far and the light still works. Any idea how much this will cost to replace and is it a fairly simple task? Thanks!
To replace you remove the one phillips screw at the bottom of your headlamp trim ring. Next remove the three screws from the aluminum retainer ring [do not mess with the other screws as they adjust the aiming of your headlight]. Then your bulb assembly will pull out and you pull the three pronged plug off the back of the headlamp housing.
I had a headlight break on me in somewhat similar circumstance.
I had ridden about 450 mi. and pulled in to get some gas. While filling up I hear the sound of breaking glass. I look around and a circular piece of the headlight glass about 2 in. around had broken out! it fell and hit my fender, small scratch, and then broke on the ground. Rode the 150 miles to home ok with the light still working. Dealer had 'never heard of it'.
Upgraded to the HD higher intensity dual beam light. looks good and works well also.
easy, the trim ring is harder to put back on than the rest of the job, upgrade as was said, or replace with same, the pre 05 headlight assemblys go for a fraction of the new cost on ebay.
