Default 107" cam help

Gonna crack open my 07 ultra classic. I bought an se 255 cam this summer and I never wanted to take the time to install it. Santa ordered me some 107" pistons to install in my original jugs. Santa is my wife and I don't even know what pistons she ordered but she ordered them through the local indy and I'm sure he steered her in the right direction. While I've got this thing apart I'm gonna let him do his "bagger port job" and install compression releases in the heads. The bike already has V&H big shots and its a mistake that I've already made so there is no need to tell me to change it. What do you think about trying to run the 255 with this combo. I'm a little worried about cylinder pressure being to high. Would there be a cam that would work better with my crappy exhaust(I'm not changing it, it sounds awesome)? Not sure where comp ratio is gonna fall but I'm guessing 10:1. What about an andrews 54? If I sell my 255 I may only have another $100 in the "right" cam. Indy told me to try the 255 because with the port work he thought it would stretch the legs out on the 255. What do you guys think. Try the 255 or??? Oh, and I hate noisy valve train. Thanks!

You could run those cams in your 107, but really, why would you want to? Your instincts about the Andrews 54 are spot on. Run a .030 hg to get your squish set right, and with the 107 pistons, you'll be pretty dang close to 10.2:1. You'd get a lot more performance out of those 54s. Sell the 255s on ebay to someone with a 96.

+1 on the 54 for the 107 build.
It will give you a nice tq curve and be easier to get a "bagger" tune that likes most gas pumps.

the only reason I was considering the 255's is because I bought them dirt cheap, I already have them, and I'm a tight wad. I don't have to have the best of the best, I'm more into the biggest bang for the buck. Right now for an extra $100 I could get into some 54's. Its probably worth the extra coin isn't it? The only concern I have with the 54's is it sounds like they're a little soft on the bottom? Any body with some seat of the pants experience?

They definitely will not be soft on the bottom in your 107. No way, no how. You'll have too much compression to run the 255s unless you open your heads a little and pull some timing. I know other guys run them up to 10:1, and the moco says you can, but if you look around a little, you'll see more than a few guys having detonation problems with the 255s in 103 motors. The 255s are designed for low compression motors, and they work well at a static cr of 9.2:1.

Getting ready to pull the trigger on the andrews 54's. 255's are up for grabs if anyone is interested!

Just put the 54's in my 103" build w/10.2:1 comp. and can tell they are gonna pull strong (only 125 miles on build so far). Had the 255's in my 96" and they worked great there! Also fixed the 07 gearing ratio's out with the the Evolution Industries 49T Sprocket Ring Gear http://www.preferredpowersports.com/..._SPROCKET_.htm
Which I'm sure is helping too. Good luck with your build!
