Picked up a set of mint Hard Bags today off Ebay for $750. Problem is that they are the wrong color.
How much should I expect to pay to have them repainted to Vivid Black with the Pin-stripping.
Ouch. I think I paid about 450 bucks to have my hard bags painted this year, but that was for two colors with pin striping. The painter gave me a little break for breaking them all the way down and just bringing in the tops and bottoms. That way he didn't have to keep track of all the little parts.
If you take all the parts off, it should run you from a low of $400 to about $550 on the high side. That should include the pinstripes and polishing.
I would suggest finding a painter based on abilities rather than price. A painter who can do the job so it looks like it came from the factory and matches the rest of the bike usually doesn't come cheap. Black is a very unforgiving color, it will magnify every flaw and defect in the paint, and matching the factory stripes is an art in itself.
I tell you this, because I fix $99 paint jobs all the time, the problem is, it can cost another $200 to $400 to remove whatever paint and primer was put on improperly. Many times the pinstripes are the tape kind that have been cleared over. It really is cheaper to take it to someone who specializes in motorcycles and will do it right the first time.
