I bought an Ultra Limited on November 3rd. I rode it for about three weeks, 660 miles, before I shut her down because of weather.
So today I go out to the garage and decide I'm going to hose the dust off and wipe her down. As I'm wiping I notice a crack in the Tour Pak by the hinge farthest back.
So I called the dealer and asked what to do. The service manager told me to bring it in for him to look at. So I rode in, he looked at it and immediately told me that it wouldn't be covered by warranty. He said that kind of crack is usually caused by guys flipping the Pak lid open.
I showed him how I open the lid holding onto the tether and easing it open. I'd only opened the Pak 6-8 times previously.
So he is going to have the factory rep look at it but he said that I shouldn't gt my hopes up.
I was cool with the guy because I know he's just doing his job but I am a little frustrated to spend all that money on a bike and then find this.
He reminded me that I signed a paper saying all was OK with the bike. I told him I realized that but that this was something nobody could have seen. I only saw it today because the crack had kind of pushed apart when I opened the Pak today.
I told the guy that this was the second bike that I had bought there in 16 months and he seemed sympathetic.
Have any of you guys had this problem and if so, what did your dealer do for you?
You have a 2-year wheel to wheel warranty, you need to tell that guy to F-OFF, and go to another dealer for service.
First off how you you over flip it with the stock retainer cable on there with out breaking at least the retainer cable.
This dealership bullshit is why I went 25 miles across town to buy my bike last March.
Just make sure when you get it replaced under warranty at another dealer you personally go back to him to show him other dealers know how to work customer service them tell him to F-OFF my future business is going elsewhere.
Like its going to cost him a dime to take care of you, Im tellin you your being treated like ****... Fight like hell or go elsewhere.
Go to as many dealers as possible and ask what they will do. If nobody will scuff the inside a bit with some 40 grit and use the permatex plastic welding system epoxy crap 2 part system in a reary to use syringe... works good... just makesure to clean it good with alcohol first.
Just checked mine, no problem found. Built in Oct bought 11/11. 2600 miles and the tp w/ tether has been opened 100's of times. Also switched to the premium hinge a few weeks ago. Someone else on here talked about a cracked tp or lid on a new bike. Do a search and compare notes
it is going to come down to how the service manager explains the situation with the tour pac lid to the zone rep. if he pushes the issue that you are a good customer and he wants to keep you as a customer they should replace it.
the other poster cracked his lid installing the hinge kit- different circumstance.
sounds like a warranty issue to me, and I have yet to hear of "guys flipping the lid" and this being "common".

Yea you're right, I checked it out. Agree this aint common. As for the dealer, its a lot easier to take cash from a willing customer than to fill out a warranty claim. I'd be raising hell.
