Well thought I would tell everyone about my little uh oh. I was washing my 2007 FLHX today. One of my saddle bags was stuck under my removable tourpak. It was the left side bag. I lifted my tourpak to free it with much success. However I forgot to put the pins back in. Gravity worked well right up until contact with the pavement. Skinned the latch and the bag itself. It was a careless, stupid mistake. I remained calm. I was in a hurry to get done, going to the Harley Shop to pick up my matching lock for the tourpak. Just wanted to share this, maybe I will save someone some pain. I will look into fixing it.
Flame away if you feel the need. hehehe I have flamed myself a bit already. If someone reads this and is more careful, it is worth it. Kinda what a place like this is for, share and learn. Life is still great! I love my Glide!!!
Man, That bites. We all do stupid stuff. I am sure that if you started a brain fart thread it would be a 100 pages long. I had, key word "had", a mint 91 Land Cruiser, that I just absolutely love. I had to back it up to get my gate open, so I just hopped in and with my leg hanging out and door wide open, backed up and took the door smooth off with a tree! Cost me a grand to get the door replaced. Bad thing is, I did it once before a couple years ago with my friends truck! Roop
A good paint guy or someone good with a buffer could fix that.
i actually use touch up paint all the time and never sanded it down just filled in rock chips on the cars etc.
Well After reading an article about dropping the paint in the area and letting it cure for 48 hours take an eraser on the insdie of 2500 grit sandpaper and sand it smooth. Then polish and buff it out.
Well it worked GREAT you cannot even tell.
i am betting you would not even need to sane that to much at all and the touch up area would maybe not need paint. You may just have debree in openings and a liht touh up may fix things.
I know the feeling. Last week I went "out of sequence" and started up my bike with my helmet on the seat. Normally I put on the helmet and then start the bike. Well we all know what happened next. It fell and scratched the top of my saddle bag.
Sorry to hear that. It happened to me too. Luckily I had put a rug under the bag and just got a little scuff. Now I always put my tourpak on first then the bags. It will allow you to pull the bags like normal....
