Unless you are gonna be running a lot of high rpm's the 255's are the way to go. More umphh in the rpm ranges that most folks do in normal street riding. The 255's really pull and also really great for two up riding.
I'm very pleased with the 254's they never quit pulling. Can't wait to get it back on the dyno after I break her in to see what kind of number I come up with. Butt dyno is smiling!

2012 road king with rienhart true duals 3.5, bigger sucker air cleaner and 254 E cams. I hated the 7.6 mile ride home before i called the dealer and told them to pick it up and make the swap. Now i love it. Plenty of everyday roll on power but she has alot more if you want it. It pulls like a freight train. My dealer did the work so my warrenty is still good. Had to make sure with the dealer though.
