I have a 07 S.G. with 30k miles, bike is in for motor upgrades and find out Crank has .009 run out.
Is this comon to have this much or am I just lucky to own it ?

Dang sure ain't lucky.

Not uncommon at all, although many would like to believe it's a rare thing.

I dropped my bike off last week for a build I was very nervous about having to much crank run out. My builder told me I had a 50 50 chance for being under .003 and I only had 3 thousand miles. He said its common for arleys to have more than .003 even brand new I got lucky and had less than .003 thank god. Thats a bummer doing your cranks isn't a bad thing just sucks that it costs so much

Just for Info:
TT 324 issued 22 August 2007 nominates changes to the crank run out specs:
Run out in the crank case is up to ten thou. (0.010) (so your "within factory specs" cgunvil)
Run out on a truing stand is up to four thou (0.004)

Service wear limits are 0.012 in the case and 0.005 on a stand.

I know they changed the spec's to .012 but thats insane. My cranks was out .014 on primary and .004 on pinion and was destroying my primary chain.just think what a fourty pound crank is doing at 4000 rpm.Its like taking you ceiling fan and breaking off half a blade.you better stand back.

It's amazing that some people don't question what's written because it's on a "technical bulletin".
Companies; like Harley Davidson, write these things all the time to protect themselves and their poor/cheap quality/engineering designs.

Again; good for you - Bagger.

I had an 04 Heritage.

Sweet spot used to be in the 80 mph range. Eventually that sweet spot dropped to the 70 mph range, ran hotter and vibrated (balanced motor even).

I confirmed my suspicion when I measured .009 run out.
To think that HD raised their spec to .012 convinced me of their selfish money saving motivations. They didn't want to honor warranty, so they changed the spec. Period!

Oh-- with respect in regard to your ref about the tech bulletin (since I posted about it)-- I was being sarcastic and should probably have mentioned the sarcasm.

I have records of the increased run out specs over the years including my 09 as increased on a regular basis according to the whims/needs of the MoCo.

For example:
Service Bulletin M-1234 issued 05 December 2008 (for the 09 model year) increases runout from 10 thou to 13 thou virtually overnight.. What a load of BS...

cheers,
V2

I spent just about all of this last Summer looking in to BT crank run-out. From what I learned they run pretty smooth from .003 and down. Around .004-.005 you can just start to feel a little extra motor vibe. When they get up around the .007-.009 it can start to eat in to the oil pump bearings. I seen oil pump bearings completely shot with 37000 miles on them from a 07 SG with a crank run-out of just .008. Most of the time the oil pump is the first thing to go from to much run-out. Back in 2000 Harley run-out spec was .004 now they have it up to .012. Saves Harley a lot of $ on replacing cranks. But even after what I went through this last year, I still came back to Harley and just got a 11 RK. From what I could tell in my test drive, this new King's motor felt a lot smoother then my 10 FXDC motor did at speed. I cant wait till Spring, Winter kind of sucks here in Michigan.
