I have had the V&H HI-Output Pro Pipe and the Thunder Header for my Dyna.
The HO Pro Pipe gives good power, but is flawed in design. Its press fit leaks badly on the back of your leg. It is a NO in my book. After a few hundred miles you will be able to see carbon where the header meets the muffler. Right behind your right heal. Everyone I have seen does this, and I have even pointed it out to Vance and Hines. The Pro Pipe and the HO Pro Pipe come from different divisions of V&H, and this was told to me by V&H management. Vance and Hines fix? Use RTV. Gimme a break.
The Thunder Header is awesome. I just had a issue after 8000 miles with a single note it put into my full face helmet. So I am taking a break from it, and put on the stock pipes with Cycle Shack mufflers. This so I could go from quite to loud in about 15 minutes.
I will be putting my TH back on if it doesn't sell. I am thinking of not to sell after all. It is a great pipe.
really? that sucks! this is the first bad comments i have heard about the V & H pro pipe HO. i ride about 30,000 to 40,000 miles a year, and pipe selection is HUGE to me. i have had three bad experiences going cross country on D & D. and was debating going for the Pro Pipe HO. i thought the pro pipe was a one piece design? the D & D is a two piece as well, but i took care of that issue with a bit of welding, now it is not as pretty as it was, but it doesnt leak from that joint any more. might just go back to using my old V & H big shot longs.....
any more info on how this pipes disappointed would be appreciated.
if i were to do it again, i'd use the same exhaust system i put on my bike almost a year ago, and that's the vance & hines pro pipe. unless you have a huge motor the ho pro pipe header diameter is too large to take advantage of the prime objective of the 2 into 1, and that's the effect of scavenging. the smaller diameter keeps the velocity of exhaust gasses up where it needs to be for proper scavenging, and that's why i went with the regular chrome pro pipe for my 103" motor. i wouldn't do it any other way. i'd considered the d&d fatcat, thunderheader, supertrap, and i chose the pro pipe. i'm really glad i did. the fit, the welds, and especially the chrome is absolutely top notch/flawless, and they're the least expensive of all the choices.
You are a high mileage rider. The loud pipes can wear you out pretty quickly, st least it does from me. I run a supertrapp supermeg for the past couple years and like to hear the radio at cruise and it barks when I twist thr throttle. I have run it with an open end cap and closed end cap and like the quieter version with the closed cap.
I have the Vance and Hines Pro Pipe on my Road King and have not had any issues. I love the look and the sound is great. Not having any issues with leaks or improper fitting as that one user noted. Most people have the Thunder Header which is also a great pipe but from a looks standpoint is lacking in my opinion. I wanted to be a little different and wanted something that looked better but didn't sacrifice sound - definitely get noticed with the Pro Pipe - many compliments and I highly recommend it.
Hey big6x6....do you mean the pro-pipe is bad as in a bad pipe or bad as in badass?
BAD as in AWESOME!
As far as leaking goes...
I've only got 3000 miles on this pipe...ZERO issues so far and I'd be the first to jerk it off my bike if there were. Finish is GREAT.
I put on a VH Pro Pipe last weekend on my 07 SG.... great price, great finish, fit perfect, no leaks, off idle bog is gone... for ME there was a lotta bark without the quiet baffle, so that went in right away... after 100 miles the tone is still a tad too loud for me, but what REALLY bugs me is the increased vibration transmitted to the batwing, damm thing shakes like hell now, windscreen actually squeaks it shakes so bad, thats a deal breaker.. will probably go to a true dual now and re-use my SE mufflers again... the 2-1 throttle up sound is awesome though...
