Another BIG risk is loading and unloading the bike using a 5" ramp. When you are driving on and off your feet can't touch the ground as you go up the ramp. This creates a huge pucker factor for most folks. I have an enclosed fiberglass trailer (see Pic) in addition to the ramp it has a footboard that anchors to either side of the ramp so you can balance with your feet all the way up and down. You may want to make something similar.

I have to agree with the others on here, I wouldn't put much more than a lawn mower or a four wheeler on one of those HF trailers. Certainly not a taller, heavier Harley. The one time that I towed my bike on a trailer it was in a double axle enclosed car trailer. Overkill? Sure, but I wasn't worried about if the trailer would survive with a heavy touring bike on it. Better have too much trailer than just enough trailer.

I would have a larger trailer but the condo association won't give me a place to park it. Folding trailer fits in the garage. We ride two-up all the time. Me being 66 yo and the s/o, 63, doesn't really allow us the luxury of riding to some of the places where we want to ride. Trailer has 12" wheels and a cautious, but frugal, driver. Everything is well-insured.

Just because somebody else does it doesn't mean it's the smart thing to do. I have a HF trailer, but that goes behind the bike, not under it. If I need to tow the bike, I have a 5x10 utility trailer with a low CG and 14" automobile tires. I would not like the bottom of my bike to be above the tops of the trailer tires.

I've got a new 2011 Tri-Glide that I need to trailer about 400 miles round trip for a tune. Was thinking about just renting a U-Haul for a couple of days. I'd like to keep the bike enclosed if possible.
Any suggestions?

Hey Buddy,
For that trike you will need 8x10, minimum. I'd ask around, I'll bet you know someone that has just what you need. Always seemed to be a lot of trailers in FL, especially around Bike Week.

I'm building one like this, mine will be on a 3500lb 4" drop axle w/20" X 1000lb springs. 5' X 10' deck and 4' shield. 6,000lb recessed swivel "D" rings and a Bulldog hitch. LED running lights with backup and deck lights.

I'm pulling from Oklahoma City, OK to Flagstaff, AZ. Riding the Grand Canyon one day, Sendona the next. Pull back to Alburquerque, NM and ride a 200m loop northwest and down through Sante Fe, NM. Then pull home.

Each run will be around 175-200m each.
