can you tell me more about this flash? I get a little knock when rolling on the throtle at about 78mph (see my build below)
According to my builder, the power commander is such that the end user cannot destroy the engine with faulty tuning. Therefore, timing adjustment is limited to a range of 10 degrees above or below the base setting of 50 degrees. The flash we speak of is for a high compression 95" build, but, basically all we are going to use out of this calibration is the the base timing adjustment that is lowered to 34 degrees instead of 50 degrees. Now, instead of the lowest timing setting being 40 degrees with the stock calibration, we can go as low as 24 degrees.

Someone previously mentioned that the 510 cams tend to produce alot of detonation ( spark knock ) when used at compression ratios higher than 10 to 1 or so. My builder confirmed that the rumor was in fact just that....fact.

So are you saying your builder told you it was just a rumor?
That's what I was told to. After I broke in my engine I took it back to him and told him it was pinging like crazy, he said he couldn't here it when he rode it. I told him to go take it for a spin. He came back and said yeah, it is detinating pretty bad.
So he made a few adjustment to the ignition and the detination was gone. So I took it for a spin and it felt like a dog, I honestly think my RK felt slower then before any engine mods. Hell I think one of the new 96"ers would of even walked away from me.
So I ended up setting the igintion back and running at least 92 octain with some booster, that helped some but it still churps alot at lower RPM.
I've talked with several people that have went to the same builder that I did, and he is nolonger using 510's with high compression. [sm=confused06.gif] I wonder why ?

04RoadKing - What thickness head gasket did you use in your build. If it was a thin one (like a .030) you can try going to a thicker gasket to get some compression out of the motor. It may not take much, you never know?
