i installed a set from harley on my 2011 road glide. it is not that easy. faring, fuel tank and fues box all have to be removed to do the wiring install. i have done two bikes, my last bike wash an 08 street glide. took me about 3-4 hrs to do it without messing up anything. exracer3
Actually you don't have to do all of that...All of the wiring connections can be done under the fairing...The hardest part of the install is running the wires in the handlebars and that really isn't that hard.
I had heated grips put in when I bought my bike last year. It was only $300 installed. I thought that was too much but I will tell you they look good and work excellent.
NOt to mess ya up but I would really think about another brand of grips other than HD. So a search on here and you'll find how bad the HD grips are. Mine went bad within several months. Even the HD shop foreman goes on and on about what a piece of crap there are and how many he has had to repair/replace. Go Heat Demons or some other brand.
yes, go for heat demons for the reasons stated above. the nice thing about these they don't break and if they do the companys customer service is great, also you can pick almost any hand grip you want. the heating element slips inside the bars and of course the grip over that, simple. the led switch which matches the hd stuff is used to control the heat.
To put the Harley heated grips on, will take an easy couple hours. You have to put the fuse in the fuse box, and run the wires. The directions say, remove the tank. Bullcrap. Just run the wires under the tank and zip tie them to the existing wires.
Get some heavy string (cut it off your ol' ladies drapes in the living room like I did) and use an air compressor to blow it threw the handle bars. Attach the wires, and pull them through the handle bars, attach the grips.
The hardest part was removing the stock grips. Don't try to save them....cut the damn things and throw them away.
P.s. My harley grips lasted four years. They've been replaced with Heat Demons, available for <$100 on ebay. You will have to drill a hole in the handle bar next to the left grip to run the wires. Piece of cake.
I just installed heat demons on my 11 sg and it was a breeze. Of course its the third time I have done a Harley. Kit is really awesome and the elements really get hot. Plus u can use any grip u choose.
