Only do the minimum repairs needed to keep it running and ride that machine until you are settled into retirement. Then decide on a performance upgrade or trade. You will be in a better position with what your retirement $ are and what your expenses will be.

During that time add some $ to the payments to have it paid for in about 18 months. Don't roll over debt into a new machine.

Joe- your sig line contributed to my willingness to post a long reply- I couldn't agree more with your statement. I just now realized your screen name was familiar in a way, and with that I'll offer this thought, "RW" given your present situation weighing on the side of stability- with upcoming retirement in mind, keeping (maintain/repair) is a sound decision. Sometimes the cable seems longer than others because we will it to. I sit in the NE corner- but am no means a certified expert, I just run the $$$ for my mother. Jim

i'm not gonna tell you how to spend your money, but you already know that the new ones are choked to death, quiet enough to drive to a funeral procession, and high priced. the one you got has character and i'm thinking you've had it for a while. everyone goes on and on about the new frame etc. however we survived with the pre 09 frames is a mystery to me, but one that don't care about. if you like excess that you'd have to put a lot of money in to to make it to where it runs right, then by all means get the new one. i don't feel the need to trade in every two or three years though, so i'd be putting the new cams and hydraulic tensioners in yours, and just ride the heck out of it. you've got a great looking bike there. i have a good friend who traded off his 95" 03 roadking for a 2010 ultra/limited and he says the thing is a real pig. he now misses his 03 by the way. it's your money, and your choice, but yours has soul and character.
