Default Justifying Trade or Repair

Ok, I have been looking at a 2010 Ultra Limited and now it is time to figure out a way to convince Momma to let me trade(i am pw'ed real bad).
My 05 Ultra has 77,000+ miles on it. Has never had a cam tensioner check or repair. Now I know from most on here it is way past due. So the SE kit for 01-06 88's cost in the neighbor hood of 500.00. Not sure what else would be needed since it has oil pump, hydraulic tensioners, etc in the kit. Figure 200.00 or so labor.(indy not HD). Need to have true duals or fuel moto efi tuner, aircleaner and exhaust package put on. 500-700.00 estimating. Need some cosmetic work done on the front fender(estimated 300.00). Most likely will need new tourpak hinges this year. Also, want to have the bearings replaced in both wheels. Am wondering if I should go ahead and figure a new drive belt too. Do I have enough reasons to trade for the new bike, or refinance mine and borrow enough to make all the repairs. Help me out here.

Joe

If you spend some money you will know where it went and i think they are well worth it...the base of the bike is a strong base to work with.

Was going to tel you to go get it until I got to the near end of your post where you mentioned refinancing your present bike. I'm a dollar and cents guy and got to say, I'd never even think about a new vehicle, car, truck, or bike, unless the present one was paid off. Just my two cents.

you would get a new 2 year warranty...old one probably needs tires and brakes...the list is endless. bottom line-don't go further into debt-pay off your current ride, save a little for stage 1 on the new one...buy a left over model year when you do trade.

If you're anything like most of us, that new bike could easily cost you more in new accessories than the "repairs" you have listed for your '07 will! I'm pretty good at justifying new toys, but I have occasionally found myself in the position of regretting having bought some of them as I write that check every month. If you can swing it, then go for it, but if its going to put you in a bad spot financially, then you may want to think twice. Just my thoughts.
