Default thoughts, consequences

What are the thoughts of switching to a synthetic oil at 960 miles instead of 1000? I know a lot of wrenches will say to wait until 1500 to 2000 and Harley says 1000. I know that rings are broken in well before that point. I'm asking because I changed mine at 960 before I went on a long trip last year. Now the wrench who was recommended to help me install and tune a TTS said I made a huge mistake and my engine will likely burn oil and its life will be shortened. I'm not sure I want to rely on this wrench after that comment? Anybody else change their's over just before it actually hit 1000 with good results. I'm sure that at one point, some CVO's came factory filled with synthetic. Appreciate other thoughts and comments.

I have a 2011 CVO Street Glide....and it came with Syn III from the factory.

You are probably opening a can of worms here as there are going to be lots of opinions about it. In this circumstance I think your wrench saying that you made a "huge mistake" is...I am sorry...an idiot, however if he isn't then there are going to be a butt load of bikes with engines going out before to long.

My prior bike (an 09) I switched over from dyno to syn at 500 miles...and had 20k on it when I traded it in...and it certainly didn't burn oil.

Do a little research...you can start here

I don't think 40 miles is really gonna make a difference. If it does, my motor is gonna blow cause I got it dynoed at 950 miles.
It seems that a lot of guys try synthetic and then end up switching back to Dino.

IDK...loads of "flaming" responses to your question are my biggest worry. Changes my oil to Synth @ 100-miles after doing the 30/60/30 x10 new engine break-in...not burning any yet & still running strong...

Changed mine to Syn 3 at about 850, them back to dyno oil at 3200...

You are going to hurt anything, but the top end noise you will hear is Normal.

You have not hurt a thing, the mechanic is out to lunch. Many of the new Harleys are coming from the factory with Syn in the engines. Best thing you could do would have been do the 30/60 breaking routine on your way hone when you picked it up new and then drain that oil as soon as possible and replace with a good synthetic.

Used synthetic oil at 1000 miles on my last three bikes. Never had any problems. Can't think of a real good reason why you would have any problems either.

Tell your wrench that he's full of it. CVO bikes are delivered with Syn3.

I won't switch until 3k on a motor, but it is your bike your money, and you have to live with it.
I doubt you would hurt anything, but why take the chance.
