Didnt want to highjack Riteway's current thread and wasn't sure about differences in Bike models:
I am considering lowering the rear end of my 2010 FLHTCU by 1" utilizing lowering blocks.
Is using lowering blocks considered OK or am I asking for problems? From what I have read here, I dont want to simply strap on SG shocks due to the rough ride. I suppose I may end up purchasing some quality shocks to do this, but I need as much input from you guys as possible. This is all due to my need to flatfoot and I have already installed a reduced reach seat which helped alot but I need a little more yet.
Also it is my understanding that the SG has the shorter shocks without lowering the front end as compared to my EG. So is there a need to lower the front end also?
I went through the same question and from all the reading I have done I went with the Progressive 940 shocks for the rear. They lower your bike by 1" and yet give you the same travel as your OEM shocks which is 13". They are pricey but you will be Thankful you did it. They have a LIFETIME GUARNTEE and you will never feel the bottoming out of the bike. Stay away from lowering blocks as I have heard they change the stance of your OEM shocks and you do not want to do that. Now wait until you want to lower the front something that I was going to do but I had a dealer quote me out and it came to $780 LABOR ( 6.5 Hours ) , I really only gain a 1/2" more by lowering the front and with that much money being spent I will have a seat special made?

Papa....I am basically trying to see if lowering my bike will help with the problem's i am having with a set of knee's that arn't what they used to be..so i want to try it on the cheap before i spend money (I don't have) on a set of shocks.... I'm 6'0 and have no problem with flat footing the bike but i have sat on S.G.s and it sure seems like a much better hight for me!!! Good luck on your search!!!!..Tim.....o~`o............

Riteway... Please post how the lowering blocks feel. I think your saying you are going to try them for the feel and use that as a gauge for deciding on lowered shocks?
Damned thing is, this weekend we had a great day in NoCal and I got a good ride in along the river as well as a couple hours practicing on the cones. I was well reminded of how often I scrape the floorboard mounts as it is and am just a tad nervous to pull the trigger on lowering the rear now.
So my new question is: Is it really possible to get a GOOD/COMFY Touring seat made that is LOW for us vertically challenged riders? Maybe just 1.5" lower than stock.....
I have put a LOW PROFILE seat on my bike and when that was not enough I tried a Sundowner which was too wide at the thighs for me. So I am sending my Sundowner to Mean City Cycles and I spoke with Allen and he said he will bring the seat down to get me another 1" and cut the sides down so I can sit without my inner leg getting STABBED by the seat. I am using the memory foam so he can cut it LOW!
Wait till you get the 940's you will love them . They are GREAT shocks and so simple to turn for dampening, no special tools just your hand and turning very easy, and they are Black/Grey color match my bike perfect.
