I'm installing these (HD part #56298-03) on my '01 Road King Classic. The instructions say to get the torque spec for the bolts that go through the upper fork bracket from the service manual, but I'm darned if I can find it. Can anybody tell me what it should be?
I read somewhere that there could be an issue with the chrome handlebar clamp cover not sitting down properly when using the poly bushings with chubby bars (I have Wild One 508's), but the parts guy at the local dealership assured me that if the proper torque is used they're fine. Can anyone confirm that it works okay? I'm also installing a one-piece handlebar top clamp.
With the poly bushings, torque in few steps, wait several minutes between to allow the poly to settle. Also, hit the final torque a few times waiting a few minutes in between. The poly compresses slowly, if you just torque it once to final value, they will end up loose.
Thanks Dawg, and fabrik8r you were right on about adjusting the torque on these. The job's done now, and my bars feel much firmer... definitely worth doing.
