We know.

Someone felt like stating the obvious.

Does the SE comp take care of the hard starts when the bike is hot?

I have put 11K miles on my 2010 Limited since I purchased it in April, I don't recall a bang at start up. But if I attempt to leave off the line hard and don't slip the clutch just right, I get a lot of bang pop boom from the compensator.

Will an up grade to the 2011 comp. solve this problem?

hey spiderpig, i like that nickname. homer simpson was a great actor. my compensator would at times sound like i whacked my primary cover with a piece of 1x4 pine about three feet long some times when i'd go to start my bike. when i got the s.e. compensator, it eliminated that problem. harleys way of admitting that the stock compensator is too weak, is to allow the screamin eagle part as a replacement. i know several guys who've gotten it done as a freebie. a lot of it likely depends on the dealer you use.

Now I thought that the 2011's had the S.E. in them? When I inquired about this they explained that the 2011's were not a retro fit and a different compensator than the S.E.
Was just wondering if anyone can verify this?
Look at "D" page 496 in 2011 parts and accessories catalog.(Original equipment on '11 touring models)
If you ask parts guy for number of compensator assembly for '11 touring, he will give you # 83935-09, which is a part of the Sceamin' Eagle Big Twin Compensator kit. Ask for the instructions for this kit and it will show the part #'s for the rest of the components that make up the S.E. Comp. kit.

Update::
Just picked my bike up from the dealer. They did replace the compensator with the S.E. version. However this came at $100.00 charge along with a notation on the work order. The notation stated that the S.E. compensator would only be warrantied for 90 days and would be a parts only replacement along with no labor warranty.
When I inquired about how this could be on the warranty side of things, and mentioned that this was the same unit in the 11's to take care the issues. The dealer stayed with the "S.E.street legal" designation in the accessories book.
The hard knocking noise has been resolved during starting by far. The bike is super quiet in the primary when you hit the starter as apposed to the loud bang before. So all in all I am happy with the upgrade even with the $100.00 charge. I just hope that their are no issues with the S.E. part as it will not be covered during the remaining warranty which is about 15 months yet to go.

Good for you, $100 is one of the better up charges I have read. Free is best but those seem rare and of course many dealers refuse to do it under warranty at all. My guess is you will not need to worry about that part/warranty.

At least your dealer wasn't like mine and said they might do the swap for a $ difference but it was going to void any warranty "down there." WTH is "down there", the whole lower engine/primary?
