Default Help with cam upgrade

My brother's bike is an injected '07 96" with a stage 1 kit. He has a Terry Comp TV-3 tuner that was recommended by the shop that installed his stage 1 air cleaner and pipes. So far the bike has run very well and he's had no issues. When they put the bike on the dyno to check the AF ratios, it was spot on first pull. When I saw the dyno sheet with the AF ratios they looked good for sure.

His local HD dealer is running a cam special, $700 out the door for a set of SE204s installed. He want to put the SE204s in his bike. I told him to check with the cam installer (HD dealer) to see if the TV-3 would work with the cams. I also told him, since it was an HD dealer, to be prepared to hear "you need a SERT".

I'm looking for anyone that has some experience with the TV-3 and a cam upgrade. I just want to know if the TV-3 would work or not with the SE204 cams.

Thanks

most HD dealers insist on SERT or what ever harley makes after you go to stage 2 upgrades. My dealer, even though they tune with a dynojet, will not install or work with power commander or any thing other than harley. They will however install any aftermarket cams, incluidng what I did myself with Andrews 48H. I saved a ton by doing it myself, now they threatened me with voiding my warrenty. Not good business releations. They void my warrenty ands I'll sue the crap out of them.

I am just saying that it's not a special...that sounds like regular price... I am doing my own install...seems quite simple...If you have $700 just earmarked to do this then go for it. I thought $500 at the Indy was a good deal until i started looking at doing it my self...I have the cam and the install kit is on the way...

How did the 48H cams work out? Did you install them in a TC96? Do you have a dyno chart you could share? I like the specs on this cam, which is similar to the SE255, and I would like to see a chart. There was one posted on HTT about a year ago, but it was an early model and I understand they stopped production temporarily for some reason--now apparently back up and running. I'd like to see how the newer models do.

Dealers are like people, all have different personalities. Mine prefers the PC over other tuners, but based on results I've seen they don't do a good job of tuning them. Mine also will not nitpick you if your bike has been modified, even if you DIY. For example, mine has SE255 cams (installed myself) and PCV with Auto-Tune, which I've never tried to hide from them, and they went to bat for me when my tranny mainshaft bearing went south. HD warranted it even though it was 10 months out of the factory warranty and no extended.

To the OP: As for the $700 "special," I would say this isn't a bad deal. The cams retail for $300, the HD install kit around $90, so that leaves about $300 for labor, which isn't exorbitant IMO. I assume they'd be re-using the stock pushrods, and if so that's about an 8-hr. job for a tech, I would think. That's about $40/hr., so they must be desperate for work this time of year, and I hope they take their time and do it right. You can DIY with low-mileage pulls from Ebay for $200-300, although used 204's aren't commonly seen like 255's, the latter being stock in CVO's. If you take the dealer up on this deal, spend another $15 and install the B168 Torrington/Timkin bearings or the SE version.

I bought 255's, adjustable Push Rods, and Gasket kit here on the forum and installed them myself. With Beer it cost $240. Alot of great detailed instructions here on the forum. Once you get inside there's not much to go wrong if you can follow simple directions. By the way I love the cams, made a good amount of difference in lower end tq. I've read that the 204's are not that great for lower end tq due to the amount of over lap.
