Can't tell you much about Sugarland but I'm on the SE side of Houston close to Clear Lake.
Just looked at your profile so I had to do a quick edit. There are some nice areas just south of where you're going to be if you wanted to head to the Gulf of Mexico and about an hour away, not a bad little cruise. I could give you a route that would take you down to the coast and then East to Galveston and back up to Sugarland that you could waste the good part of the day on if you take your time and check out some of the local stops. If you're going to be in town longer than that, you could head towards the hill country and see some really nice areas. The hill country is really the place to be, I can't imagine that you'd be disappointed heading that direction.
There's a lot of area in Sugar Land to ride, I live north of I10 and it's crowded around here, even after dark...
The area sj9125 discribed is a great run...
I like the Katy Hockly run from Katy to 290.. Except when you run into a swarm of bugs...
Thanks all..... One other question..... How is it around there? If all goes well and I get an offer for the job I'll be leaving the nice riding of New England and into the heat. Living, entertainment, housing, etc etc... all the usual questions that go with moving into a new area.
oops I forgot the most important thing.... A good Dyno tuner! With changing from NE to TX I'll need to retune the bike. Any good rallies, runs? When is the best time of day for riding without dieing from the heat?
I think you will like it down here. Despite the heat we can ride year around. Lower cost of living which means larger house for less money. No state tax. We have an awesome night life and entertainment. The Lonestar Rally is in Nov. and it's free. The ROT is also a good one but that will be in 2007.
Don't forget the Lone Star Rally in Galveston the first weekend of November. Don't worry about the heat. Just keep movin'!!!!!!
I live about halfway between Houston and Galveston -- League City. Welcome to Texas!!!!!
Welcome to Houston.....Last year I moved here from Wash D.C. Check out V-Twim Performance on Shaver Road in Pasadena. They are very reasonable for Harley maintenance/performance. My dealer recommended it to me and alot of HD owners use them. I live in NE Houston area, close to Lake Houston. The houses are very reasonable but the property taxes are high, no state income tax. Checkout www.har.com for homes on the market. Sugar land is a nice area but the crime is higher in the SW Houston area.
