Dawg is right as he always is. But the cb antenna will work just fine for the radio. So I would buy a cb antenna that way you wont have to make sure they are aon right as they will work any way you put them on

Learn something new everyday! I didn't know that the antennas were different.
A little while back I hid the stock radio antenna inside the front fairing and removed the cb antenna alltogether. After reading this thread I checked the extra removed antenna that I have stored in my closet of bike parts, and wouldn't you know it says am/fm at the base. That means the antenna installed in my fairing for the radio must actually the cb antenna.
The antenna works fine, but next time I'm in the fairing I'll replace it with the correct one.
Guess we can all be ignorant at times... And you guys just proved that in my case LOL.
Well I removed the broken one(left side) and the radio works.
There is no writing(CB/AM FM)on the antennas or at the tour pac mounts and they look identical.
The lettering is right at the base of the antenna. It's raised lettering molded into the antenna. If you're eyes are anything like mine it takes two pairs of glasses (or a magnifying glass) and good light to see them.
I don't know about the newer bikes, but my CB antenna has a "base" on it, like the old CB antennas on cars. It's mounted on the right rear of the bike. You can see the base on my sig pic.
You can buy a replacement, or for about 30 each, the shorty ones.
I broke my CB antenna in the garage door also and replaced them with the J&M antennas. Yes, I have noticed a loss in am/fm reception. So much so that I am looking at going back to the original antennas on my 09. The CB seems to work better with the short antenna, at least on the receiving end. Have not noticed any change on the transmit end.
I installed a J&M antenna in the fairing for the radio - I don't plan on using the CB but I can install the antenna again if I need to.
hey badjustbad......do you like your J&M internal antennae? did you consider any others? I am considering this since i rarely listen to the am/fm radio......do you still get as good of reception when you use your fm?
